Housing For All:

We believe that everyone in Aotearoa should have a home to live in.

Equity:

The current colonial and capitalist system at the root of the current housing market reinforces inequities between people based on their identity and geographical location. Public housing plays a role in social, racial and environmental justice as a trickle up solution to support equitable futures.

Solidarity:

The housing market divides us. Only through solidarity with each other can we organise towards a future where everyone has a home. This means breaking down the fences that keep us separated from each other and building genuine relationships and collaborations strong enough to transform the compounding impacts of the private housing market.

Anti-Capitalism:

The housing crisis is a result of an economic model rooted in the exploitation of people and the land for the profit of a small minority of wealthy individuals. This economic model must be transformed for housing to be decommodified and for everyone to have a home. Public housing is a pathway to this transformation.

Decolonisation:

Māori should have rangatiratanga over their housing, and PHF supports all efforts for land back and redress in Aotearoa. Public housing within the kāwanatanga sphere must be realised through the lense of a te tiriti-based future, and must grow and evolve as Aotearoa does, transforming with our constitution, and journey toward decolonisation. Public housing is an urgently needed intervention in the housing system in Aotearoa, but should exist alongside Māori housing initiatives that are well-resourced and self-determined.
